Vocabulary Starter

A useful way to start off any lesson is by revising vocabulary. An active way to do this is by asking a volunteer to sit at the front of the class with their back to the blackboard. Write a word that the class knows on the board. The class must help the volunteer to identify the word by giving examples, definitions, or synonyms in English. So, to take a simple example with the word 'banana', students may say 'It’s yellow.''It’s a type of fruit.''Monkeys love eating them.' Once the volunteer says the correct word, carry on with a new volunteer and the next word.
